>Phi Theta Kappa - Eta Omicron Chapter

The International Honor Society of the Two-Year College

The Eta Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two-Year College, was established at McCook Community College by 12 charter members in 1950. Today the Eta Omicron Chapter has grown in size to approximately 1,638 members and is a part of the Nebraska/Wyoming Region of Phi Theta Kappa.

Phi Theta Kappa membership is based solely on academic achievement, no service is required by any member. Students are required to complete a minimum of 12 credit hours of Associates degree coursework at McCook Community College with at least a 3.5 grade point average. After induction, students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average to continue membership.

Eta Omicron participates in many service projects throughout the college and community. Some activities the chapter has been involved in during the 2006-2007 school year are the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, the American Red Cross / MCC Campus Blood Drive, the Five-Star Chapter Development Program, the Satellite Seminars pertaining to the 2006-2008 Honors Study Program: Gold, Gods, and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power, the 2006-2008 International Service Program: Operation Green: Improving Our Communities, the MCC Campus/Neighborhood Clean-up Project, and family programming such as the MCC Halloween Fest and Santa's Workshop. Eta Omicron members have attended the 2006 Phi Theta Kappa International Convention in Seattle, WA, the Nebraska/Wyoming Fall Regional Conference in Omaha, NE and will be attending the 2007 Phi Theta Kappa International Convention in Nashville, TN in April, 2007.
