Business and Community Education Department offers fall classes

Beginning Drumming will be one of the classes offered by the Business and Community Education Department at North Platte Community College this fall. The class starts Sept. 14. It's open to the public. 

The Business and Community Education Department at North Platte Community College has announced its lineup of fall classes. All are open to the public. They include: 

Arts and Crafts: 

Bob Ross Painting – Students will learn how to paint like Bob Ross to create a snow-covered mountain range surrounded by a beautiful, pink sky, peaceful lake, gorgeous fall trees and other foliage. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 17 on NPCC's South Campus. The instructor will be Sharon Rodeman. The fee is $75 with supplies and $40 without supplies. 

Tunisian Crochet – Students in this class will learn basic Tunisian crochet skills while making a simple, textured bath mat. Beginning crocheters are welcome. A size L Tunisian crochet hook and scrap yarn are required. Yarn options needed for the project will be discussed at the first class. Classes will meet from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, Sept. 26-Oct. 31 on NPCC's South Campus. The instructor for the class is Tonya Goff. The fee is $35. 

Business and Technology:           

AutoCAD 2016 – This course will teach students how to use the industry-standard drafting tool, AutoCAD, to create scaled mechanical, civil and architectural drawings. Drawing and editing tools and dimensioning practices will be explained. Students will set up new drawings and make prints using layers. They will also create and edit blocks and learn methods of plotting scaled drawings with title blocks. The project-based curriculum is geared toward beginners. The instructor, Michele Weimer, has more than 20 years of combined experience both as an industry professional and as a college instructor. The class will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 6 – Nov. 8 on NPCC's North Campus. The fee is $179. 

QuickBooks: Basic and Beyond – Students will gain a basic understanding of QuickBooks 2014 as they learn to record transactions, generate invoices, receive payments, write checks, reconcile bank statements, make corrections, print reports and manage payroll. The class will meet from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 and Sept. 29 on NPCC's South Campus. The instructor is Ann Reichle. The fee is $75. 

Lifestyle: 

Managing Stress and Creating Calm - Students will learn about the signs, physical and mental impacts and management of stress. The class will meet from 6-8:30 p.m. Sept. 13 on NPCC's South Campus. The instructor is Matt Fosket. The fee is $25.

Planning A Funeral – This class will provide students with the information and resources needed to plan ahead for a funeral. The second session will include a tour of a funeral home. The class will meet from 7-9 p.m. on Sept. 13 and Sept. 20 on NPCC's South Campus. The instructor is Deb Burkle. The fee is $15. 

Writing Your Story – Students will develop ideas and learn techniques for writing about their memories. They will walk through the process of a creating a life story that can be shared with children and grandchildren. The class will meet from 7-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 14 – Oct. 19 on NPCC's South Campus. The instructor is Dennis Burkle. The fee is $39.

Recreation:

Beginning Drumming - Drumming has been found to help reduce stress, rejuvenate, calm and help develop right brain creativity. For thousands of years, people have used the drum as a means of coming together in times of war and peace, to heal and to celebrate. In this class, students will explore all types of drumming and experiment with different sounds. They will view and listen to many kinds of drums and percussionists throughout the ages and will play the drums as well. No experience is required. The class will meet from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 14-Oct. 19 on NPCC's South Campus. The instructor is Kristi Leibhart. The fee is $39. 

Hair Braiding - This one-evening class will feature the following braids: French, corn row, fishtail and rope. The class will meet at Joseph's College of Beauty from 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 19. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. The instructor is Robin Brown. The fee is $15.   

Moving to the Oldies - The fitness class will feature line dancing and other rhythm activities, in addition to fun exercises. No partner is needed. Students will move to "oldies music" and are encouraged to dress is casual attire. The class will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 13-Oct. 18 on NPCC's South Campus. The instructor is Ron Skiles. The fee is $25, and pre-registration is required.
