The Student Life Department at North Platte Community College is spreading holiday cheer and helping a worthy cause in the process.
It's offering a Santa's Workshop from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the fireplace area of the McDonald-Belton Building on NPCC's South Campus. The event is open to the public.
Admission is a canned food item for the Rape/Domestic Abuse Program of North Platte. RDAP is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. All of its services are provided free of charge.
"We selected RDAP as the food recipient because the organization has always supported NPCC," said Augie Sanchez, NPCC assistant director of housing and student activities. "We partner with RDAP to spread rape and domestic abuse information to our students, and we encourage our students to contact the organization if they are ever in need of assistance."
Children will have the chance to visit and have their photos taken with Santa, decorate cookies, make crafts, watch a puppet show, play games and win prizes. All kids must be supervised by an adult.
"Mid-Plains has a long tradition of giving back to the community, and this is just another example of that," said Sanchez. "We wanted to offer an event to families in North Platte and surrounding towns that would get them in the holiday spirit."
More information about the event is available by contacting Sanchez at 535-6452.
