The North Platte Nebraska Business Development Center will host a Principles of Lean Manufacturing workshop next month.
It's scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 14 at the North Platte Community College South Campus. The cost to attend is $325 per person.
The workshop will be conducted by the NBDC Professional and Organizational Development group based out of the University of Nebraska-Omaha College of Business Administration.
"We are pleased to be able to bring this type of workshop to local manufacturers and businesses in our area," says Charlie McPherson, North Platte NBDC center director. "These types of workshops are generally offered in cities with a more populated manufacturing and business base."
According to McPherson, lean manufacturing is continuous improvement in quality and productivity.
"There's an ever-increasing demand from customers to reduce lead time and cost and improve on-time delivery and quality," said McPherson. "Those are just a few of the competitive pressures facing manufacturing firms today. Lean enterprise can transform the way companies do business."
The workshop will outline a systematic approach for identifying and eliminating waste, or non-value-added activities, through continuous improvement and a more efficient product flow.
"I am excited that North Platte has the chance to host one of these workshops," said McPherson. "If there is a good turnout, we may have options to host similar events in the future."
The workshop is a coordinating effort among the North Platte NBDC office, the Mid-Plains Center for Enterprise and the NBDC Professional and Organizational Development group.
