MPCC to offer robotics camp in August

The third annual Mid-Plains Community College STEM Camp will be Aug. 6-8 in North Platte. This year's theme is robotics.

"We decided to offer a robotics camp because of a request from local students," said Jared Daily, MPCC physics and engineering instructor. "Robotics is not only popular with STEM students, but it is very applicable in many STEM fields. Students will learn basic mechatronics and robot programming. They will also receive their own robotics kits to take home."

The camp is open to anyone who will be in high school this fall. It counts as a one credit hour college course and is transferable as a science elective credit. Space is limited to the first 20 registrants.

Sessions are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in the Health and Science Center on NPCC's South Campus, 601 W. State Farm Rd.

The cost is $110 per student, which equates to $94 per credit hour plus $16 in fees. Lunch will be provided.

Those interested in signing up can do so online at mpcc.edu. Participants can click on the CampusWeb icon in the upper right hand corner and go to the admissions page to fill out and submit the early entry admissions application. They can then follow the link to the registration form to lock in the class.

More information about the camp and the registration process is available through Daily at (308) 221-6434 or dailyj@mpcc.edu.
