Elizabeth Benjamin, Chair of the Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors, received the Nebraska Community College Association's 2013 Governor's Award during ceremonies conducted during the NCCA's annual meeting Nov. 4-5 in North Platte.
Ms. Benjamin was first elected to the Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors in 2005. Since that time, she has served as the Board's Vice Chair 2007-2008, and is currently serving her fifth consecutive term as Board Chair (2009 to present).
During the past five years, Benjamin has held the Board's leadership role in completion of new extended campus facilities in Imperial, Broken Bow and Ogallala. She was instrumental in providing the fundraising, construction, and completion of a $9.5 million Health and Science Center at North Platte Community College and a $10 million McCook Community College Events Center.
"We believe that her contributions and service will deeply impact our west-central and southwest Nebraska constituency and service area for decades," said Kent Miller, NCCA executive board president and MPCC governing board member. "It is our belief that her vision, management style and tenacity turned longtime dreams into realities."
