UPCOMING MCC ACTIVITIES: After a men’s/women’s basketball doubleheader in North Platte Wednesday, both MCC teams return home Friday to take on Central Community College starting at 5:30 p.m. It will be "Central Elementary Night" with Spotlight Dance Studio performing at halftime of both games. All Central Elementary students, staff, faculty invited for free admission.
The MCC baseball team is schedule to open the season in Liberal, Kan. Sunday with a 2 p.m. game against Seward County Community College.
COLLEGE MOVIE NIGHT: Is set for Tuesday at the Cinema 3 Theaters in McCook. All students, faculty and staff who present valid student identification, gain admission for $2 and get free popcorn. Tuesday’s movies include “Nutjob” at 8:30 p.m., “Jack Ryan” at 9 p.m. and “Lone Survivor” at 9:15 p.m. Movie Night is sponsored by the MPCC Office of Student Life.
“WEST OF LAST CHANCE” The Wrightstone Art Gallery on the McCook Community College campus is hosting the combined work of Peter Brown and Kent Haruf through mid February.
Brown, a photographer of the American plains, collaborated with author Haruf to create the “West of Last Chance” exhibition. The display was derived from their book of the same title, and it depicts the landscape and emotion of life on the plains.
For every photograph that Brown displays, Haruf accompanies it with descriptive writing. Brown has been photographing the plains for more than 25 years, while Haruf’s books have received awards such as the Whiting Foundation Award and the Mountains and Plains Booksellers Award.
