Native American dancer, singer, flute player and storyteller Garan Coons will perform for free for the public in McCook and North Platte Nov. 30. 

Mid-Plains Community College’s Student Life Department will host Coons at 11 a.m. in the Weeth Theater on the McCook Campus and at 2 p.m. in the McDonald-Belton Theater on the South Campus, 601 W. State Farm Rd., in North Platte.

Coons is Oglala Lakota and Navajo. His is the founder of the Native American Many Moccasins Dance Troupe.

He tours around the world on a mission to educate the public about negative Native American stereotypes by using personal experiences, traditional songs and dance. He has performed in Germany, Denmark, Canada and Saudi Arabia among many other places.

Coons specializes in the art of Fancy Feather dancing - bringing history and tradition to life. His exquisite regalia and defined dance moves offer a magnificent educational experience for all ages.
