Mid-Plains Community College will give you the skills to maximize your creativity
and turn it into a career in the world of graphic design and visual communications.
MPCC’s Associate of Applied Science degree program will prepare you for a wide range
of entry-level computer graphic careers from both the design and technical sides of
multimedia, print and web design.
A major focus of the program is to incorporate graphic design skills with computer
technology and business skills. Technology has created new opportunities for graphic
designers to start their own businesses in areas where it previously would have been
difficult to do so. The blending of information from those three departments will
give you a well-rounded background if you choose to go into business for yourself.
Two other very important parts of the program are the internship, which provides real
world work experience, and the portfolio course, which is preparation for a job search.
In the portfolio class, you will develop your own branding package - including business
cards, letterheads, résumés and portfolio brochures.
You will also compile a print portfolio, a web portfolio and an interactive portfolio of your best work. You will finish the semester with mock interviews and a student exhibit showcasing your expertise.
Visual Communications is a dynamic field that provides continually expanding opportunities for creative, passionate individuals who love new challenges. Former students have pursued careers in print, multimedia and web design in advertising and design agencies as well as in-house positions with retailers, manufacturers and organizations.
Graduates may seek employment with companies that have already been established or
they may take advantage of opportunities provided by advances in technology to operate
their own business.
Areas of specialty may include:
• Advertising
• Animation
• Branding
• Editorial Design
• Environmental Design
• Illustration
• Infographics
• Interactive Design
• Marketing
• Mobile Design
• Package Design
• Promotional Design
• Typographic Design
• Video Production

Students pursuing the Associate of Applied Science Degree will participate in an internship during their final semester of classes to obtain real world work experience before graduation.
The AAS in Graphic Design transfers directly to Bellevue University.
