Nursing Assistant / Medication Aide

• Must be at least 16 years of age
• Cannot have been convicted of a crime rationally related to their practice involving moral turpitude.
• Must be able to speak and understand the English language or a language understood by a substantial portion of the facility’s residents without the use of an interpreter or interpretive device.
• Must successfully complete a basic nursing assistant training and testing approved by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure Division of Public Health.
• Attendance is mandatory to be in compliance with state regulations Medication Aide
• Must be 18 years of age - Must pass a Medication Aide course of 40 hours in length
• Must pass a state exam
• Must be knowledgeable of the 10 competencies and the basic routes.
• Attendance mandatory to be in compliance with state regulations. 

This class allows you to work in the state of Nebraska. If you plan to work outside of the state of Nebraska you will need to check with that particular states DHHS for transferability.

We offer testing for Nebraska nurse aides and medication aides that have let their registry lapse. Please contact the program coordinator for questions or scheduling of these tests.

Mid-Plains Community College has been approved as a testing site for Nurse Aide and Medication Aide through the Department of Health and Human Services of Nebraska.

Nursing Assistant State Retesting:

If you have a lapsed nurse aide registry for the State of Nebraska, we can provide the written and skills exam for you to be placed on active within the nurse aide registry. Fee $50.

Medication Aide 40 hour Initial test: 

We can provide you the written test required to get you placed on the medication aide registry for Nebraska. We will need to receive verification of your course completion before we can test you. Please complete the Medication Aide 40 Hour Class Completion Verification Form and email to the Nursing Support Coordinator at: niemethb@mpcc.edu. This form will need to be received prior to the testing date. If this is not received, then you will not be tested. Written exam fee $30.

Medication Aide 40 hour retest:

This testing is for those who have been active on the Nebraska medication aide registry and let it lapse. We can provide the written and skills exams to renew your medication aide registry. Fee $50.

If you have taken the nurse aide or medication aide class through Mid-Plains Community College and are taking your initial testing to be placed on the Nebraska registry, you do not sign up here for that. Your instructor will coordinate testing with the whole class, no additional fee.

As a Nursing Assistant or Medication Aide you can work in a variety of healthcare settings to include but not limited to: long term care facilities, assisted living facilities, home health, hospitals, clinics and more. Our Program Coordinator and faculty have a great professional working relationship with many of the regional healthcare facilities and can make recommendations/referrals for job placement upon completion of the class.
