MCC art alum Danley Walkington leads spring gallery schedule

McCook Community College art instructor Rick Johnson has announced the spring schedule for upcoming shows this semester at the Wrightstone Fine Arts Gallery on campus.

Through Feb. 27, the prints and printmaking works of MCC alum Danley Walkington will be featured. She recently received her master’s degree in fine arts from Arizona State University.

She kicked off her exhibition Feb. 6 speaking to a group of MCC arts students about printmaking, and the processes, techniques and inspiration she used in putting together her exhibition. The Wrightstone gallery and Walkington’s work is on display from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Tuesdays until 9 p.m. This exhibit is free of charge and open to the public.

Other art shows this spring at the Wrightstone Fine Arts Gallery include the McCook High School art showcase from March 2-16.

MCC’s annual Paint-In and Art Competition will be from March 30 through April 10. This exhibition will showcase more than 250 works of art from area high school students. The annual paint-in competition will be April 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Cener. Winners of the exhibit will be announced at 1 p.m. on April 10.

MCC’s “Associate of Fine Arts Exhibition and Thesis Defense” is set for April 20-May 1. The opening reception is scheduled for April 25 from 4-6 p.m. (refreshments to be served). Mark your calendar to meet and greet the artists from the MCC art department while the share their stories and thesis works completed at in their time on campus.

This exhibition will feature artwork from MCC AFA candidates: Maria Lopes-Compos, Kashlin Beck, Rachael Gallaway, and Miriam Wahlqvist. They will defend their thesis composition with a capstone oral defense scheduled for Friday May 1 at 1 p.m. in the gallery.

May 4-8 will be the annual “Graphic Design Portfolio Show.” This exhibit features projects by graphic design and visual communication students completed at MCC.
