The North Platte Community College theater department will have open auditions for “The Haunting of Hill House,” from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 2 in the NPCC McDonald-Belton Theater on NPCC South Campus, 601 West State Farm Rd.

Written by F. Andrew Leslie and based on the classic novel by Shirley Jackson, the play brings to life the chilling story of Hill House—a mansion shrouded in mystery, with a dark reputation that has kept it uninhabited for years, save for visits from its caretaker.

Its isolation is broken when Dr. Montague, an investigator of supernatural phenomena arrives to investigate the house’s sinister history. He is soon joined by three strangers, each with their own reasons for accepting his invitation. What begins as a lighthearted stay quickly turns unsettling as inexplicable events unfold.

As fear takes hold, Dr. Montague’s wife and her friend arrive with their own supernatural agenda, bringing on a crisis in which the evil forces of Hill House are unleashed to a new and, for one of those present, fatal fury.

Roles are available for three men and four women with additional opportunities for technical and stage crew members.

No previous acting experience is required, and auditions are open to all NPCC students, employees and the general public.

Those who would like to audition are asked to contact Theater Instructor Ritch Galvan at galvanr@mpcc.edu to reserve a spot.

Rehearsals will begin Sept. 8 and run through late October. Performance dates are set for Oct. 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.
