Curtis Mcgehee of North Platte has been selected as Mid-Plains Community College’s Business Student of the Month for February.

He chose MPCC because the college is close to home and offers flexibility.

“I originally wanted to attend a four-year university,” Mcgehee said. “However, I was blessed with my daughter who impacted those plans. I chose MPCC as it’s close to where my parents live and my mother is an alum.”

Business instructor Cathy Nutt nominated Mcgehee for the Student of the Month recognition.

“Balancing a full course load alongside full-time employment and family responsibilities, Curtis has demonstrated exceptional time management skills and an unwavering commitment to academic success,” Nutt said. “His ability to manage everything and maintain a positive attitude serves as an inspiration to students and faculty alike, proving that with dedication and effective time management, it's possible to thrive academically while honoring commitments to work and family.”

Mcgehee is studying business administration and is on track to graduate in spring 2026 with an associate degree. He plans to start his own business or pursue a career in human resources, finance or management.

His advice to incoming business students is to invest time in building relationships.

“A huge reason for my success has been the friends, teachers and family I surround myself with,” Mcgehee said.

He said he is grateful for the honor and thankful for the instructors who have supported his journey, as well as his daughter, Dolly, and fiancée, Abree, who continue to inspire him.
