MPCC partners with UNK to offer transfer pathway in music

North Platte, Neb. – Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC) and the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) have announced a new 2+2 transfer agreement designed to create a seamless pathway for students pursuing music education.
“Mid-Plains Community College is committed to providing transfer opportunities for students, and this is a great example of two institutions working together for the betterment of students,” said Dr. Jody Tomanek, Vice President of Academic Affairs. “The amount of work put into creating this agreement was substantial and could not have happened without the persistence, flexibility and creativity of our faculty.”
Under the agreement, students will complete their first two years of coursework at MPCC and graduate with an Associate of Fine Arts degree, then transfer to UNK with the option to pursue a Bachelor of Arts with specializations in music business, instrumental studies, piano or vocal performance.
“It has been a great experience to collaborate with both past and present chairpersons at UNK to achieve this goal,” said Kristin Simpson, MPCC Lead Music Instructor. “I am thrilled to provide this fabulous opportunity to students in our area and beyond.”
The 2+2 agreement reflects a continued commitment by both institutions to strengthen access to music education through collaboration and innovation. By providing a clear and efficient transfer pathway, the partnership enables students to begin their academic journey at a community college and transition smoothly to a four-year institution, positioning them for long-term academic and career success in the field of music.
