Mid-Plains Community College to offer Distance Learning Nursing Theory Classes

Beginning in Fall 2026, Mid-Plains Community College nursing students will have greater flexibility to complete their education closer to home.
Through expanded distance-learning options, students enrolled in MPCC's one-year Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or two-year Registered Nurse (ADN/RN) pathways will be able to take theory courses in McCook, Broken Bow, Imperial, Ogallala and Valentine.
The new model is designed to help students reduce travel time and transportation costs while maintaining access to MPCC's high-quality nursing education.
"Many of our nursing students travel long distances multiple days each week to attend classes," said Dr. Kathy Harrison, MPCC Director of Nursing Programs. "By offering theory courses at our community campuses, students can spend less time commuting and more time focusing on their studies, families and careers."
In addition to expanded theory course access, first-year ADN/RN students will be able to complete clinical experiences in McCook under the supervision of a master's-prepared MPCC nursing instructor, Brett Niemeth, MSN, RN. Previously, ADN/RN students were required to complete all clinical experiences in North Platte.
This enhancement expands educational opportunities and helps address workforce needs throughout the region.
"Our goal is to meet students where they are and create pathways that fit their lives," said Harrison. "We want to reduce barriers that can stand in the way of success.”
Prospective students are encouraged to contact the nursing department by emailing nursing@mpcc.edu to learn more about admission requirements, prerequisite courses, application deadlines and program options.
